Ultrasonic Activation of the Sonosensitizer Fimaporfin Enhances the Efficacy of Chemotherapy: An In Vitro Study on Rat Glioma Cells

Review Data

Purpose and Significance of Study: This study showed that focused ultrasound activation of fimaporfin together with bleomycin significantly inhibits the viability of rat glioma monolayers in vitro. This shows promise for alternative treatment of a number of conditions from cancer to bacterial infections.

Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the journal Clinical Oncology and Research.

The manuscript contains some very minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof, except the highlighted one, which requires the author’s attention), which are listed below –

The common errors are –

·       “disulphonate” must be replaced with “disulfonate” in all places to maintain consistency.

·       Omission of “.”, e.g., after “adhere” in the 1st sentence of Fluorescence microscopy of TPCS2a intra-cellular distribution in the Materials and Methods, before “however” in the 2nd paragraph of Discussion, and so on.

·       Omission of “,”, e.g., after “therapy” in the 1st sentence of the Abstract, after “(<20 nm)” in the 7th sentence of the 1st paragraph of the Introduction, and so on.

·       Omission of “the”, e.g., before “treatment” in the 1st sentence of the Abstract, before “pure” in the 2nd sentence of Fluorescence microscopy of TPCS2a intra-cellular distribution in the Materials and Methods, and so on.

·       Omission of “,” after “i.e.” and “e.g.” and “.” After “vs”.

·       Words like “light-activated” and “glass-bottomed” must be hyphenated.

·       “which” must be replaced with “that” in some places, e.g., in the 3rd sentence of the Abstract, in the 2nd sentence of the 2nd paragraph of the SCI mediated BLM effects on F98 cells in the Results, and so on.

The other errors are –

In the Materials and Methods –

Under Fluorescence microscopy of TPCS2a intra-cellular distribution –

·       “fluorescence” is misspelled.

Under Glioma cell growth viability assays –

·       In the 4th sentence, “;” after “either” must be replaced with “of the following:”.

Under BLM and BLM +FUS toxicity –

·       In the 1st sentence, “were” must be replaced with “was”.

  Under Statistical analysis –

In the paragraph below the formula –

·       In the 1st sentence, “SFi” must be replaced with “SF”.

In the Conclusion –

·       In the 1st sentence, “fold” must be replaced with “folds”.
