Pulmonary Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma- A Single Center Review of the Diagnostic Approach

Review Data

Purpose and Significance of Study: This is a retrospective review of the diagnostic pathway adopted for primary pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma patients in a tertiary referral lung cancer center. The diagnosis is particularly challenging due to the rarity of the disease and the non-specific symptoms. To date, there are only a small number of isolated case reports in this area. The limitation of this study lies in the small sample size (10), a relatively short time covered (9 years), and a single-center consideration.

Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the journal Clinical Oncology and Research.

The Discussion clearly elaborates on the different approaches taken for the diagnosis of the different presentations of the disease and the challenges encountered. It was found that multiple attempts at tissue sampling are often required to obtain an adequate pathological specimen to facilitate a definitive diagnosis, and a multidisciplinary discussion should be included as part of the diagnostic pathway, prior to invasive diagnostic procedures.

o   The manuscript is well-written. Some very minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof) are listed below –

·       In the 1st sentence of the 2nd paragraph of the Abstract, “preformed” must be replaced with “performed”.

·       Words like “large-sized”, “low-grade”, “ground-glass”, “single-agent”, “false negative”, “first-line”, “cost-effective”, “post-procedure”, “follow-up”, etc. must be hyphenated for easier reading.

·       “,” before “however” must be replaced with “;” in all places.
