Subependymal Giant Cell Astrocytoma without Clinically or Genetically Identifiable Tuberous Sclerosis Complex: A Case Report
Review Data
Purpose and Significance of Study: This is a case report of rare entity of subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (SEGA) in a patient without clinical evidence of tuberous sclerosis or somatic TSC1/2 mutations. There are just two such previously published events. This manuscript will help provide clinicians with insight on low grade periventricular tumors and help augment our collective understanding of such a rare sporadic event.
Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the journal Case Reports and Series in Surgery.
The Discussion is apt. It puts the exceptional rarity of the present case in context and elaborately explains the rationale behind the pre-, peri- and post-operative course followed with reference to the relevant literature.
o The manuscript is well-written. A couple of very minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof) are listed below –
· In the last sentence of the 2nd paragraph of Case Description, “area of residual” must be replaced with “residual area”.
· In the last sentence of the 1st paragraph of the Discussion, “sequelae” is misspelled.
