The Effects of Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin K on the Differentiation of Porcine Adipose-Derived Stem Cells (ASC) into Osteoblasts
The Effects of Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin K on the Differentiation of Porcine Adipose-Derived Stem Cells (ASC) into Osteoblasts
Review Data
Purpose and Significance of Study: The authors studied the effects of vitamins D3, B12 and K on the differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells into osteoblasts in standard osteogenic medium in pigs. The results are of interest to tissue engineering with respect to large bone defects.
Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of high interest for the Journal of Biology Engineering and Medicine.
The manuscript contains a few minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof) listed below –
The common ones are –
· Using “statistically” instead of “statistically significant” multiple times, e.g., in the last sentence of the Abstract, in the 3rd, 4th and 6th sentences of the In Vitro Alizarin Red S and Von Kossa Stain in the Results, and so on.
· Omission of “the” in some places, e.g., before “synthesis” in the 14th sentence of the 2nd paragraph of the Introduction, before “spent” in the 2nd sentence of the 2nd paragraph of Experimental design in the Materials and Methods, and so on.
· Omission of “,”, e.g., after “moreover” in the last sentence of the Abstract, after “however” in the 14th sentence of the 1st paragraph of the Introduction, and so on.
· Words like “adipose derived” and “target specific” must be hyphenated.
The other errors are –
In the Abstract –
· In the last sentence, “higher level, statistically different, of osteocalcin” must be replaced with “higher levels (statistically significant) of osteocalcin production”.
In the Introduction –
In the 1st paragraph –
· In the 3rd sentence, “to” must be replaced with “into”.
· In the 10th sentence, “in patient” must be written as a single word.
· In the 12th sentence, “to” after “injected” must be replaced with “into”, and “.” Must be replaced with “–”.
· In the 15th sentence, “are” after “there” must be replaced with “is”, and “,” after “BMSCs” must be replaced with “;”.
· In the 17th sentence, “the” must be removed.
In the 2nd paragraph –
· In the 2nd sentence, “ASC’s” must be replaced with “ASCs”.
In the 3rd paragraph –
· In the 1st sentence, “ASC” must be replaced with “ASCs”.
In the Materials and Methods –
Under ADSC Isolation and Culture in Vitro –
In the 1st paragraph –
· In the 6th sentence, “the” after “so” must be replaced with “that”.
· In the 9th sentence, “a” before “uniform” must be removed.
· In the 12th sentence, “were” after “DPBS” must be replaced with “was”, and “re-suspended” must be written without hyphen.
· In the 14th sentence, “an” before “hemocytometer” must be replaced with “a”.
In the 2nd paragraph –
· In the last sentence, “,” after “medium” must be removed.
Under Alizarin Red S Staining –
· In the last sentence, “statistical multiple” must be replaced with “multiple statistical”, and “comparison” must be replaced with “comparisons”.
Under Porcine Osteocalcin ELISA –
· In the penultimate sentence, “Student-t Test” must be replaced with “Student’s t-test”.
In the Results –
Under In Vitro Alizarin Red S and Von Kossa Stain –
· In the 3rd sentence, “but…control” must be replaced with “but there was no statistically significant difference in the number of nodules compared to the standard osteogenic control”.
· In the 4th sentence, “significant” must be inserted after “statistically”.
· In the 6th sentence, “the” before “vitamin K” must be removed, “significant” must be inserted after “statistically”, and “;” must be inserted after “differences”.
In the Discussion –
In the 1st paragraph –
· In the 1st sentence, “media’s” must be replaced with “medium’s”.
· In the 4th sentence, “ASC” must be replaced with “ASCs”.
· In the 6th sentence, “the” before “vitamin” must be removed.
In the 2nd paragraph –
· In the 1st sentence, “vs” must be followed by “.”.
· In the 4th sentence, “was statistically” must be replaced with “were significantly”.
· In the 7th sentence, “,” before “however” must be replaced with “;”.
· In the 9th sentence, “base osteogenic” must be replaced with “osteogenic base”.
· In the last sentence, “significant” must be inserted after “statistically”.
