Surgical Planning of Hepatic Metastasectomy Using Radiologist-Performed Intraoperative Ultrasound

Purpose and Significance of Study: This study attempted to determine the frequency of change in operative plan as a result of IOUS findings and whether IOUS is still beneficial after implementing a standardized, comprehensive process of preoperative hepatic imaging. The findings demonstrate the utility of IOUS in surgical planning for hepatic metastasectomy and provide the basis for a quality improvement strategy regarding standardized preoperative imaging.

Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the Journal of Surgical Oncology.

The manuscript is mostly well-written. It contains a few minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof), which are listed below –

 

The common errors are –

·       Omission of “the”, e.g., before “implementation” in the last sentence of Methods in the Abstract, before “mean” in the 2^nd sentence of Results in the Abstract, and so on.

·       “preoperative” must always be written without hyphen to maintain consistency.

·       “radiologist-performed” must always be hyphenated in “radiologist-performed IOUS” to maintain consistency.

·       “post-contrast”, “fellowship-trained”, “disease-free”, “liver-specific” and “T-test” must be hyphenated.

·       Omission of “,”, e.g., after “MRI” in the 1^st sentence of the Results in the Abstract, after “inflow” and “outflow” in the 4^th sentence of the Surgical assessment and operative procedure in the Materials and Methods, and so on.

·       In the last sentence, “,” after “surgery” must be removed.

In the Materials and Methods –

  Under Study design and population –

·       In the 1^st and 2^nd sentences, “2” must be replaced with “two”.

  Under Statistical analysis –

·       In the 1^st sentence, “in” must be inserted after “performed”.

In the Results –

  Under Clinical, radiographic and surgical characteristics of patients –

  In the 2^nd paragraph –

·       In the 2^nd sentence, “was” must be replaced with “were”.

In the Discussion –

  In the 4^th paragraph –

·       In the last sentence, “,” after “studies” must be removed.

  In the 7^th paragraph –

·       In the last sentence, “,” before “however” must be replaced with “.”.
