Prophylactic Urethrectomy Could Further Shorten the Female Bladder Cancer Recurrence and Metastasis
Review Data
The purpose of this single-centre retrospective study is to compare the clinical effects of laparoscopic cystectomy for female bladder cancer patients with respect to retention and resection of the urethra among 42 female bladder cancer patients. This study evaluates the clinical efficacy, operation duration, blood loss during surgery, hospitalization time and postoperative complications. The results suggest that the preventive resection of female urethra can significantly reduce tumor recurrence and metastasis in a patient. Further long-term study is required to give a clear idea on the clinical efficacy of recurrence of female bladder cancer after operation.
The study is thorough, and the selected parameters are adequate. The Discussion cites the relevant literature on the recurrence of female bladder cancer and metastasis. Overall, this article is suitable for the Journal of Surgical Oncology (JSO).
There are few minor errors in the article (already corrected in galley proof) which are as follows:
· In Introduction, 6th sentence, “whether to resect urethra preventive during surgery” does not make any sense and must be reframed as “whether to preventively resect urethra during surgery” and in Study Population, under Materials and Methods, in 2nd paragraph, 2nd sentence, “operation were excluded” must be written as “the operation was excluded”.
· In Surgical Methods, 2nd paragraph, 3rd sentence, “ionic broad ligament” must be rewritten as “broad ionic ligament”.
· In Surgical Methods, 4th paragraph, 3rd sentence, “abdominis” is misspelled and must be written as “abdominal”.
· Hyphens are missing in some places like, in Surgical Methods, 1st paragraph, 1st sentence, “povidone iodine” must be “povidone-iodine”, 2nd paragraph, 1st sentence, “under screen” will be “under-screen”.
· Determiners are missing in certain places like, in Result under Abstract, 4th sentence, “urethral” must be “a urethral”, in Introduction, 7th sentence, “complete” must be “the complete”.
