Comments:
The study is well designed and executed. The Introduction lays down the basics for taking up the present study. The Methods and Results are adequately described. The Discussion offers a thorough and detailed analysis of the findings of the present study taking all the relevant literature into account. The study is well supported with briefly explained figures. Finally, the study aptly Concludes by demonstrating the ability of pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) to improve memory in neuroinflammatory Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) model through enhancement of mitochondrial biogenesis in the brain, and that improving mitochondrial biogenesis seems to represent another potential mechanistic approach for treatment of AD. The Conclusion also suggests to measure mitochondrial marker proteins and indicate the mitochondrial content in brain tissue to interpret the overall effect of PQQ on mitochondrial count.

Further comments on the paper
Comments: This study aims to test the cognitive enhancement effect of pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) in a neuroinflammatory mouse model mimicking Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), and whether PQQ is able to activate mitochondrial biogenesis in brains of the AD mouse model. The study holds significance as it is the first study to confirm cognitive enhancement effects of PQQ in a neuroinflammatory mouse model mimicking AD. The results showed and confirmed the pro-cognitive properties of PQQ on the neuroinflammatory mouse model based upon several performed cognitive tests. The study suggests that PQQ could retain a normal level of mitochondrial biogenesis in brain tissue after inducing neuroinflammation via lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
