A Novel Approach to Maintaining Normothermia in Major Spinal Deformity Surgery with an Esophageal Warming Device

Review Data

Purpose and Significance of Study: This is a report of the novel use of an esophageal warming device, added to standard care, to maintain normothermia in three patients during Major Spinal Deformity Surgery. Safety and efficacy compared to standard warming devices will need to be determined in future prospective trials.

Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the journal Surgical Case Reports.

The manuscript contains a few minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof), which are listed below

·       Description of the cases in sentence fragments instead of complete sentences.

·       Omission of articles, e.g., “the” before “maintenance” in the last sentence of the 1st paragraph of Introduction, before “core” in the 6th sentence of the Methods, and so on.

·       Use of incorrect tense, e.g., “is” after “device” in the 5th sentence and after “temperature” in the 6th sentence of the Methods must be replaced with “was”, and so on.

·       “Forced-air” must always be hyphenated.
