Iatrogenic Bowel Injuries During Gynaecological Surgery: A Case Report and Literature Review
Iatrogenic Bowel Injuries During Gynaecological Surgery: A Case Report and Literature Review
Review Data
The case report illustrates the clinical course of an iatrogenic sigmoid colon lesion in a 70-year-old patient with ovarian malignancy requiring surgery. The case further lays down the causes of the intestinal injury and also how the incidence of adhesions varies depending on the body mass index (BMI) of the patients.
The discussion cites the relevant literature on incidence, risk factors, pathophysiology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, different approaches on the treatment and forensic consequences of the iatrogenic bowel injuries. This case report is suitable for the journal Surgical Case Reports (SCR).
There are several errors (already corrected in galley proof, except the highlighted one) which are as follows:
• Multiple places in the manuscript have “computer tomography” which must be written as “computed tomography”.
• In Case Presentation, 1st paragraph, 3rd sentence, “computer tomography abdominal scan (CT)” must be reframed as “computed tomography (CT) scan of abdomen” and in treatment, 2nd sentence, “if the gynaecologist…. attending surgeon” is written incorrectly and can be reframed as “if the gynaecologist is experienced in bowel surgery, simple lacerations and small perforations, then the patient can be treated without attending a surgeon”.
• There are certain spelling mistakes such as, in Case Presentation, 1st paragraph, 4th sentence, “salpingoophorectomy” must be correctly spelled as “salpingo-oophorectomy”, in 5th paragraph, 3rd sentence, “subhepatal space” must be “subhepatic space”, in Discussion, under Incidence, risk factors and pathophysiology, 5th paragraph, 8th sentence, “errouneously” must be written as “erroneously”, 8th paragraph, 1st sentence, “verres” must be “veress”.
• In Discussion, 5th paragraph, 8th sentence, “intestinal serosis” does not make sense and need to be checked.
• Hyphens are missing in certain places like, in Case Presentation, 1st paragraph, 4th sentence, “salpingoophorectomy” must be written as “salpingo-ophorectomy”, 5th sentence, “high grade” must be “high-grade”.
• There are missing of determiners in many places throughout the manuscript like, in Abstract, 3rd sentence, “clinical” must be “the clinical”, 6th sentence, “prevention” must be “the prevention”, “experience” must be written as “the experience”.
