Preoperative Transcatheter Arterial Embolization and En-Bloc Resection for Giant Non-Functioning Left Adrenocortical Carcinoma: A Case Report

Review Data

Q: Is the topic relevant to the journal area of interest? Is it contemporary and interesting for

researchers?

A: Good

Abstract & Keywords

Q: Are all required components included in the abstract? Are the keywords appropriately chosen?

A: Good

Goal

Q: Is the goal explicitly stated in the Introduction? Is its formulation clear and unambiguous?

A: Good

Structure

Q: Is the paper's structure coherent? Is it in coherence with the goal of the paper?

A: Good

Q: Are methods the author uses adequate and well used?

A: Good

Discussion & Conclusion

Q: Is it related to the results presented before? Do you consider them as coherent?

A: Good

Comments: The Discussion briefly illustrates the significance of surgery as the treatment of choice for adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), providing relevant literature. This further provides other methods of management of ACC for early and long term results. The Conclusion highlights that the combination of preoperative TAE, surgical compartment removal and adjuvant treatment with mitotane may guarantee remarkable outcome and provide a long-term disease-free survival rate.

Comments: There are few issues found in the manuscript which are as follows:

·       Under Abstract, in Case Report, 1st sentence, “Middle aged male was visited for a huge left abdominal mass” must be “Middle aged male visited for a huge left abdominal mass.”

·       Under heading Case Presentation, 1st paragraph, 2nd sentence, “surgical history was not significant and he did not assume other regular medications” must be written as “surgical history was not significant and he did not consume other regular medications”.

·       There are other spelling errors found, which are rectified with the appropriate spellings.

Further comments on the paper

Comments: The Case Report presents a 57-year-old Caucasian male with a 3-months history of moderate to severe left flank pain. Clinical examinations revealed adrenal origin of tumor and evidence of displacement and extension of the tumor to the surrounding tissues. The manuscript mainly describes the efficacy and relative safety compartment surgery for large sized adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) associated with transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) and adjuvant treatment with Mitotane.

Q: Would you recommend this manuscript for further publication?

A: Yes - Suitable to be published

If you have any questions and clarifications you can write to the journal.

Thanks,
